Our Story

After realizing the lack of post-harvest facilities for small-scale farmers in Tanzania to avoid post-harvest food losses, MAVUNOLAB was founded to address this food security problem. Our mission is to work with local and foreign innovators to prevent post-harvest food losses through affordable solutions and create economic opportunities for the youth and small-scale farmers. We combine research, smart innovations, and youth creativity in designing and delivering products that respond to farmers’ needs. Our work is based on the belief that preventing food loss and waste has a profound impact on farmers’ livelihoods and a sustainable solution to food shortages in Tanzania.

Our Story

The Problem

In Tanzania, almost 50% of the food produced by hard-working small-scale farmers perish before it reaches consumers and markets. Lack of affordable and efficient technologies to prevent such losses, limited post-harvest management training, and poor handling of food products soon after harvest are some of the many reasons for high post-harvest food losses. To address these problems, MAVUNOLAB designs develops and deploys affordable post-harvest facilities suitable for small-scale farmers, food processors, and traders in Tanzania and beyond. Our products enhance productivity by reducing food losses improving farmers’ livelihoods, especially women who dominate the food supply chain.
